Sanford Daryl Foster, age 79, of 1311 Fourth Street, Newberry, SC and formerly of Clinton, SC, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
Born in Clinton, SC, Mr. Foster was the son of the late Harry Litton Foster, Sr. and Noleeka Young Foster. He was a former member of the SC National Guard and attended Newberry Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Lynn Busby Foster; two daughters and caregivers, Darlene "Darla" (Tony) Sheppard, Dianne (Jimmy) Miller; one son, Jared Foster and one special stepson, Michael Morris. He also leaves behind two brothers, Harry L. Foster, Jr. and Sammy Foster; two sisters, Kay (Rev. Marion) Ringer and Teresa Kirchberg. He is also survived by three stepdaughters, Lisa G. Baldridge and her son Tanner; Lena G. (Chris) Reynolds and her sons, John (Briana) Davenport and Wesley Davenport and grandson Micah Davenport; Lori (James) Martin and son Samuel Martin.
Daryl loved his grandchildren, Melia Cartmell, Matthew Boyce, Joshua Lyons, Jenna (Madison) Lyons, Briana Foster, A. D. Foster and Nik Foster; and great-grandchildren, Drew Nelson, Abby Nelson, Ella Claire Cartmell, Luke Lyons and Jada Lyons. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Foster was predeceased by his first wife, Clara Heaton Foster and grandsons Jacob Ryan Foster and Lucas James Martin.
Mr. Foster enjoyed fishing, hunting, drag racing, gardening, growing exotic flowers, watching the Carolina Gamecocks and Nascar, especially his favorite driver, Kyle Busch.
Daryl began working at Clinton Mills as a sixteen year old. He held several positions there prior to leaving for other opportunities. He also held employment in the construction, manufacturing, distribution, food service and law enforcement fields until a debilitating back injury caused him to retire. Even after his retirement, he was always willing to help others in whatever way possible. He and his first wife began a ministry to help others through music and testimony at numerous locations. They opened The Little Mission and assisted many people in their time of need. After his wife's death and his marriage to Lynn, he continued to minister through music. He never missed an opportunity to tell someone about Jesus. Daryl was a devoted Christian, loving husband, caring father and loyal grandpa to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We know that as he entered into the gates of Heaven, he heard "Welcome home my good and faithful servant".
The family would like to express its sincere gratitude for the entire staff of Hospice of Laurens County but special thanks goes to Dr. Patsy Sadler, Jeannie (R.N.) and Elaine (C.N.A.), all of whom provided exceptional care for our beloved husband, father and grandpa.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, March 25th at 2:00 P.M. at Gray Funeral Home Clinton. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Newberry Church of God, 2693 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or Hospice of Laurens County, PO Box 178, Clinton, SC 29325.
