Sara Jane Goodwin Young
Sara Jane Goodwin Young, age 83, widow of Harry S. Young and formerly of 317 N. Main Street, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in the Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center.
She was a retired educator and mother of four daughters and more than anything she loved children. She was active in the community, Cheer Fund and Girl Scouts. Her favorite hobby was gardening.
She was a member of the Whitmire United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a Youth Director, Choir member, director of Bible School and was on the Administrative Board.
She is survived by four daughters, Jane Young Ringer and husband, Charles of Pomaria, Margie Young Martin and husband, James of Clinton, Beth Young Grammer and husband, Bruce of Columbia and Sallie Young Hunter and husband, Jim of Greenville; two sisters-in-law, Margie Leaman of Whitmire and Doris Goodwin of Forest City, NC, a brother-in-law , Robert C. Lake Jr. of Belton, 8 grandchildren: Tripp Martin, Lindsay McGrath, Kemper Hunter, Leah Hunter, Gabe Grammer, Maria Grammer, John Ringer, Sara-Anne Batchelor and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Whitmire United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Gray Funeral Home in Whitmire.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Whitmire United Methodist Church, or the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Dr., Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923.
