Sherry White Cheatham, 58 went to be with the Lord on January 2, 2014, at Providence Hospital, Columbia, SC. Mrs. Cheatham, a native of Windsor, NC was born to the late W. Chester and Ruby White.
“Miss Sherry” taught preschool and was a childcare director for nearly three decades at many churches in Whitmire, including the First Baptist Church, the Master’s Baptist Church, and United Methodist Church. She also taught at Thornwell Home in Clinton. She was currently working at Whitmire Community School as the secretary of the middle and high school.
She was a member, Mission Friends, and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Whitmire.
Her survivors include her husband of 34 years, Mike Cheatham; daughter, Sally and (Chris) Hansen of Greenwood; son, Reuben and (Danielle) Cheatham of Greer, SC. She is survived by four grandchildren, Christian Hansen, Maya Plumley, Marisa Hansen, and Harper Cheatham. She is survived by two sisters, Judy and (Calvin) Cobb of Windsor, NC; and Betsy and (Ray) Kornegay, of Winterville, NC, and brother-in-law, John Jones of Harlem, GA; and several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy White, and Jeanette Jones.
The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Whitmire on Sunday, January 5 at 3 pm, officiated by Reverend Shannon Long. Burial will be in Whitmire Cemetery. Visitation will be at Gray Funeral Home in Whitmire, SC on Saturday, January 4 from 5-8 pm.
