Tench P. Owens, 93, well-known retired attorney of Clinton, SC died on May 20, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton after several years of declining health.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret Freeman Owens from Pickens, SC, by his parents Robert S. Owens and Mary Francis Pool Owens from Clinton, SC, by his sister Mary Bailey Owens Twitty from Rock Hill, SC, and by his brother Robert S. Owens, Jr. from Clinton, SC.
He is survived by his sister Anne Owens Clary of Chapin, SC and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Owens was a native of Laurens County where he spent most of his life. He received his education in the public schools and was valedictorian of his graduating class at Clinton High School. He was a graduate of Presbyterian College and the University of Virginia Law School.
He practiced law in Clinton for his entire career and with his father served as the City of Clinton’s attorney for a number of years. He was an officer in the US Army, a veteran of World War II where he served in Italy, and a recipient of the Purple Heart Award. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Samuel Pope at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
The body will remain at the Gray Funeral Home in Clinton until the morning of the Memorial Service. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor immediately following the service.
