Dateline-Laurens, SC
Thomas Andrew McDowell, age 81, of 112 Arrowood Lane, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at his home.
He was born in Asheville and was the son of the late Thomas Harold McDowell and Ethel Hellams McDowell Coleman.
Mr. McDowell was retired from the U.S. Postal Srevice after 35 years of service and was the Director of Finance at the Greenville Sectional Center.
He formerly served as a Deacon, Treasurer, Trustee and Sunday School Teacher at the Hillcrest Baptist Church and was currently a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a U. S. Navy veteran of W. W. II and the Korean Conflict and was currently the Adjutant of the American Legion Lake Garrett Post #25.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Morrison McDowell of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Martin Harper of Georgetown, Vicki and Dr. Stephen Crow of Laurens and Joy and Joe Kirby of Laurens; eight grandchildren, Dr. Lindsay Harper (Chris) Moore, Andrew Harper, Seth (Melissa) Crow, Caitlin Crow (Jim) Palman, Sara Frances Crow, Jay Cooke, Carrie Kirby and Sarah Kirby (Tim) Sander; four great-grandchildren, Nick Sander, Owen Crow, Maddox Palman, and Harper Elizabeth Moore; a brother, Don McDowell of Simpsonville.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Andrea and two brothers, David H. McDowell and L. Ralph McDowell.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating are Rev. Bev Kennedy, Rev. Kenneth Boone, Rev. Thomas Faucette and Rev. Dan Compton.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
