Thomas Edgar Morris, 77, of 415 Byrnes Street, Joanna, widower of Mildred Farmer Morris, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 at NHC of Clinton.
Born July 2, 1931 in Newberry, SC, he was the son of the late Ira “Bully” Morris and Cleo Hiller Morris of Newberry. He was formerly employed with Spotts Construction Company and served in the Newberry National Guard. Mr. Morris was retired from Greenwood Mills. He was a Charter Member of the Joanna Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years. He was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church in Newberry but attended Fairview Baptist Church in Kinards.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Donna Morris of Kinards; two daughters and son-in-law, Anna Marie and Gary Lyda of Joanna and Lynn Starnes of Prosperity; seven grandchildren, David Lyda of Seneca, T.J. Morris of Charleston, Audrey Lyda of Clinton, Brian and Courtney Lyda of Joanna, Elizabeth Morris of Kinards, Stephanie Starnes of Joanna, and Andrew Starnes of Prosperity; one great-granddaughter, Haleigh Gambrell of Joanna; one great-granddaughter due in January and one great-grandson due in February; and one sister Patsy Morris Malone of Palmer, Alaska.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Bobby Morris of Liberty.
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at Gray Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Saturday, November 8.
The funeral will be Sunday, November 9 at 3:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church, Kinards conducted by the Reverend Bruce Henderson and the Reverend Dr. Kimmett Lott.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Joanna Volunteer Fire Department.
