Dateline-Chapin, SC
Thurmond W. Gruber, age 81 of 108 Shawn Road, widow of Winnie Elizabeth Gruber, died Monday, June 7th at his home.
He was born in Newberry, SC and was a son of the late Ernest and Eugenia Piegler Gruber.
Mr. Gruber retired from the Columbia Fire Department in 1983 with 37 years of service with the fire department and continued working with the State at the Dept. of Agriculture at the Farmer’s Market in Columbia. He was a member of the St. Andrews Baptist Church; a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge #402.
Surviving are one son and his wife, Terry Gruber and Stephanie of Chapin, their children, Candace and Rachel Gruber also of Chapin, two brothers, Ernest Gruber Jr. of Wilmington, NC and Marion Gruber of Newberry, three sisters, Mary Alice Senn of Newberry, Pauline Singley of Pomaria and Irene Jeffers of Newberry.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Whitmire with burial in Whitmire Cemetery, Whitmire, SC.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
