Tony Lee Benson, age 80, of 200 E. Centennial Street, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Presbyterian Home.
He was born in Chester and was a son of the late Miller Blease and Virginia Mobley Benson.
Mr. Benson was a graduate of Presbyterian College Class of 1960 and played football and baseball for the PC Blue Hose. He was the Retired Director of Leisure Services for Whitten Center for 50 years. He attended Shady Grove Presbyterian Church and was an avid golfer. He was the author of “Living and Laughing with the Retarded” and Historiographer of Whitten Center History.
He is survived by his wife, Shelby Benson of the home; his sons, Robin Benson (Leslie) of Chester and David Benson (Hailey) of Denver, NC; his daughter, Toddi Kuykendall (Gary) of Clinton his brother, Richard Benson of Chester; his sisters, Doris Flenniken and Pat Ferrell of Chester; his granddaughter, Ruby Kate Benson.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 15th at 2 PM at the Whitten Center Chapel.
