Vadis Bledsoe Black, age 84, was escorted into Heaven on Thursday, September 1, 2011 while receiving loving care from the staff and spending her last six days on the earth at Hospice House of Laurens County in Clinton.
Vadis was born to Edward and Mary Bledsoe of the Hollywood Community in Saluda, SC and her parents are buried at Butler Church Cemetery. She married Charles Willie “Billy” Black and they resided at 4478 SC Hwy. 66 in Clinton.
She had been a resident at White Oak Nursing Home in Newberry since October 2009, where she loved meeting people and being the greeter for many events. She enjoyed eating out, especially fried fish. She often spoke of fond memories of she and her husband going fishing. Vadis could always bring a smile to anyone’s face with her positive, upbeat attitude and love for family.
Vadis was a resident of Briarwood Nursing Home in Simpsonville from January 2008 until October 2009.
She was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship in Whitmire and loved her church and her church family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Charles “Charlie” Willie Black, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Amber and Michelle Black of Rutherfordton, NC.
She was loved and surrounded by many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of her.
Vadis was predeceased by four brothers and six sisters: Alvin Bledsoe, Broadus Bledsoe, Clyde Bledsoe, Jim Bledsoe, Georgia Bledsoe King, Inez Bledsoe Shealy, Irene Bledsoe Bridges, Sarah Bledsoe Taylor, Naomi Bledsoe Schumpert, and Mary Lois Bledsoe Black.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 3rd at 3:00 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton with Rev. William Yon, Jr. and Rev. Bill Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Clinton.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, Sept. 2nd at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
