Velma Hanvey Spearman
Velma Hanvey Spearman, age 87, of 112 Woodrow Street and widow of James A. Spearman, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at her home.
She was born in Anderson, SC and was the daughter of the late Reverends John A. and Nettie King Hanvey.
Mrs. Spearman worked many years with Laurens Mills and retired from Torrington Bearing Company. She was a member of the Laurens Church of God and is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
Mrs. Spearman is survived by three sons, Don Hilley (Shannon) of Miami, FL, Bobby Spearman (Nancy) of Columbus, NC, and David “Punkin” Spearman of the home; a daughter, Debbie Gibbs (Charlie) of Columbia; two stepdaughters, Judy Watts (David), and Roseanne Stone; one brother, Curtis Hanvey (Lou Ann) of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Eva Hanvey Roach of Easley and Mildred Hanvey Smith of Laurens; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by a son, Jimmy Spearman, two brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 20th, at 3:00 p.m., in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Laurens, officiated by Rev. Grady Lothridge, with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
