Vera Gaskin Shealy

Vera Gaskin Shealy – Born Oct. 2, 1920 - Died January 2, 2019 (98 years old).
Born in Calhoun County, S.C., Vera resided in West Columbia, S. C. until her marriage to Andrew Wilmot Shealy Jr. The couple lived briefly in Newnan, Ga. settling in Clinton, S.C. in around 1946. Vera lived in Clinton 70 years before moving to Charlotte, N.C. in 2016. She was most recently a resident of Aldersgate Retirement Community.
Her Husband Andrew Wilmot Shealy Jr. and her son Andrew Wilmot Shealy III precede her in death.
Survivors include her son Torrence W. Shealy (Charlotte, N.C.) his wife, Marcie and their children Grace and Trevor; the children of Andrew Wilmot Shealy III; Mary Margaret Shealy (Atlanta, Ga.), Andrew Wilmot Shealy IV (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) his wife Julia and their children Will and Julian; Katherine Shealy Eubanks (Flowery Branch Ga.), her husband Steve and stepchildren Sydney and Christine; and daughter-in law Jayne Wilder Shealy (Gainesville, Ga.) and her children Bill, Brooke, Stuart and Stephen.
As a female business pioneer, Vera owned and operated Shealy’s florist in Clinton for 26 years. She was active in Broad Street United Methodist Church as well as women’s circles and garden clubs in the area. Vera loved Clinton and her many friends. Their attention and caring allowed her to reside in Clinton years beyond her expectation.
There will be a visitation for the friends and family at the Presbyterian Community, 801 Musgrove Street, Clinton, S.C. on Friday January 11th from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Graveside services and burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery 501 Elmwood Avenue Columbia, S.C. at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 12th. Gray Funeral Home of Clinton, S.C. is handling arrangements.
