Wayne G. Atkins, age 71, of 75 Gander Way, died Sunday, July 3rd in the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC.
He was born in Whitmire and was the son of the late Burley and Sara Campbell Atkins.
Mr. Atkins had 16 years service in the military and 25 years with the VA Medical Center. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Arden, NC.
Surviving are two sons, David Allen Atkins of Etowah, NC, and Steven wayne Atkins of Asheville, NC; step-daughters, Marsha and Victoria and their families; a sister, Beverly and family, a grandson, Zachary Atkins and family; a special friend, Faye Bailey of Clinton.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 11th at 11am in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Todd Johnson with interment in the Whitmire Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 10th from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
