William T. Nelson

William T. “Bill” Nelson, age 79, of Clinton, widower of Patsy Nelson, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.
Born February 12, 1944 in Clinton, SC, he was a son of the late Harwood D. and Cora Mae Smith Nelson. Bill played college football for the USC Gamecocks as a lineman and was a devoted USC Athletic fan. Later he was drafted to the NFL where he played as a defensive lineman for the Washington Redskins. He was in sales and later retired from Power Service. Bill and Patsy enjoyed camping and cooking together. Mr. Nelson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his daughters, Ellen Nelson Owen (Greg) of Fletcher, NC and Mandy Nelson Lane of Clinton, SC; his sister, Jean Roggee; and his four beloved grandchildren, Emily Lane, Joshua Owen, Olivia Owen, and Andrew Lane.
In addition to his wife and his parents, Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his sister, Toni Poe.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton with Rev. Dr. Blake Harwell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Open Arms Hospice, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
