William “Clevis” Wilkes was born on May 24, 1935 and went to Heaven to be with the Lord and Savior on February 15, 2015.
He was married to the love of his life, Mary McLendon Wilkes, for 55 years.
Clevis never met a stranger, and he always shared God’s Word with everyone he came in contact with. He had such a gentleness about him, such a love for everyone. He retired from Whitten Center where he was a caretaker for almost 25 years. He played in a band in his younger years. Clevis was a member of Prince of Peace Holiness Church in Laurens.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane McLendon Wilkes of the home; his daughter Angela Wilkes Cunningham (Jay) of Clinton; his brothers, Thomas Wilkes of Laurens and Boyd H. Wilkes of Clinton; his sisters, Ione Hendrix and Flo McLendon, both of Clinton; his grandchildren, Brittany Wilkes of the home, Daniel Cunningham of Joanna and Justin Cunningham of Clinton; and two great-grandchildren, Gracie Cunningham of Joanna and Brielle Allen of the home.
He was predeceased by his daughters, Tammy DeAnna Wilkes, and Mona Carol Wilkes, his son, William C. Wilkes, Jr and his sister, Patricia Ray.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at 4:00 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends before the service from 3 to 4 PM at the funeral home.
